Victorian Early Childhood Regulatory Authority (VECRA)
VECRA is Victoria’s independent early childhood education and care regulator.
VECRA was created in response to the Victorian Government’s Rapid Child Safety Review which called for an independent regulator to strengthen accountability and transparency in the sector.
About VECRA
Established on 1 January 2026, VECRA’s role is to ensure Victoria’s early childhood services are providing safe, high-quality education and care that children need to thrive.
VECRA is committed to improving child safety and raising service quality across the sector by:
- taking swift action when children’s safety is put at risk
- regular monitoring, inspections and education sessions
- checking services are delivering educational, developmental and wellbeing outcomes
- sharing information with other regulators and law enforcement agencies to identify risk early and prevent harm to children
- regulating the Child Safe Standards for early childhood education in Victoria.
